I recorded some clips to see the difference between the Black Label 12L and the Emi DP12A. These were done in identical homebuilt 1x12 sealed cabs. Chain was Carvin DC400 -> Axe-Fx -> Carvin DCM1540L -> cab with speakers -> shure SM57 off axis 8" away -> mbox2

A slightly relevant issue is that I can't seem to capture a good sound using this setup. In life it sounds rich, thick, full, but in recordings it loses that sound and comes across dull.

Since there is a bit of discussion on the EVM12Ls and its peers, I thought maybe this could be of some use. In each clip, the obviously louder one is the EVM. If anyone can give me pointers on micing my setup, that would also be appreciated.

With all due respect, if you're unsure about how to record/mic your setup, how can we expect representative clips? Just saying...

Now, I'm no recording expert here (I leave that to the pros), but you might try close micing off axis closer to the middle of the speaker and perhaps mix that w/ a more distant mic.

Thanks for the thread/clip in any case.

Valid point, but I think the relative difference between the two can be accurately accessed since all else is equal.
