I've overlooked these until recently. I tried the HD in a local store that sells most of their stuff pretty cheap. They have a brand new HD that they'll sell me for $280 +tax. Plugged in a G&L Legacy Tribute and was very pleased with the tone. Thinking of picking it up tomorrow. What is the deal on these? Are they reliable?

I've played an HD in store and liked it, but I own a Black Heart Little Giant and Killer Ant plus 2 1X12 cabs. All of it is very solid stuff and they are really good modding platforms. If you dig the way it sounds, I wouldn't have any reservations about picking it up.

Thanks. I like it a lot more than the Bugera V22 I am currently playing.

I own the BH5H and matching 1x12 cab now for about 4 years. I have been gigging with it since the day I got it, 3 nights a week. I in all seriousness, think it might be one of the best feeling amps I've played.. And I've tried my fair share (both pricey and cheap). I haven't had it break down on me once.

I don't know how to explain it but the Bugera has this soft attack. The HD has a snap to the attack that I crave. I really need that amp LOL

I've had one of the LG combos for almost five years, put in a couple of NOS tubes, and a JBL K120, it'll hang with amps costing a lot more.
No problems, no regrets, solid little amp.

I have been wanting a new boutique amp for weeks and have been searching high and low for the right amp. I was having reservations about settling for an inexpensive amp but dang, it's only $300. It's a no-brainer. Nothing says I can't have both.

I have the Handsome Devil Head. I've had it for about 4 years and have never had a problem with it. It does sound good....right down the middle as far as tone is concerned. Not Fender cleans and not Marshall dirt, but a good safe middle ground. I was actually thinking of selling mine and getting a Tweaker as a replacement...just to mix it up a bit. I'd say get it. They are solid.

Well I went to pick it up and didn't realize they had a Little Giant as well. I A/Bd them and decided to go with the LG. Now that I've got it home it's not blowing me away. Seems really bottom heavy. It does sound good over all and I'll keep it a few days to see if it's for me. I only saved $30 by going with the 5 watter but it has half as many tubes and is still plenty loud for me.

I think I'm gonna like it. Plugged in my SG-ish guitar and stomped on the ocd. Great sound!

I have been using a Handsome Devil live and a Little Giant in the bedroom and studio for a couple years. This is the first time in my life anyone ever came to me and said my tone was great. BIG SMILE. Even the studio guy came out into the sound room and picked the amp up to check what I was playing. BIGGER SMILE.

These amps take Tubescreamers EXTREMELY well. Great match with the EHx East River Drive,

Bump:

Had a Handsome Devil about 5 years ago, and sold it to fund a Traynor YCS50 combo. At the time I was trying to track some solos for my old band, and since the HD and a Box Of Rock wasn't giving me the searing gain I wanted (looking back-why would it?), I sold it. Now I want a new amp. Traynor doesn't cut it.

Nowadays, I'm all over the map thinking of replacement (DSL40cst, or '68 CDR with pedals...expensive), but there's a few of the HD's used on GC for around $200, and I'm hoping a loud 2x12 cab and a Sweet Tea or Hot Wired would put me in a good place (cranking the master and only pulling up enough pre to get the amp as loud and cleanish as I can.

Always did like it before...just acted a little stupid. Would anyone bite on one these days?

I had one a few years ago as a backup. As far as el84 amps go, clean is not its thing. It sounded best when turned up and goosed with a boost pedal.

I have one for a backup. And mind you, its backing up a Maz38sr.
When set right, it can get pretty close to the Z tones.

that seems expensive for an amp noone would touch when they were originally selling for that price. id imagine to sell that theyd greatly reduce the price.
