Is it my imagination, or was there talk here years back of Ritchie Blackmore glueing or shellac'ing the neck to the neck pocket of his Strats ?

It was reported but never confirmed.
If he actually did it, it was supposedly only to one. Not sure which one, though.

He also screwed a bass guitar string tree to the front of the headstock on a strat, possibly the same one.
When he chose to answer why, he said it was because people had been copying him for so long, and so he wanted to confound any who would try to figure out what it was and why/what it was there for.

    Hmm ...

You can see the glue on joint on some of the videos. I think he said he did it to most of his Strats.

I heard him interviewed saying he did it to all of his Strats to keep the necks from shifting in the neck pocket.

Possible, but Ritchie also owns some pre cbs 4 bolt Strats that are used only in studio and I believe he did not glue those.

Wasn't there a guy named Dawk who worked on his guitars and had a site where he said what he did to them

Blackmore's Black Strat used on In Rock/Black Night is the one IMO.

I think it was the Strat given to him by Clapton and it had a modified stronger tremolo bar.

I think it got stolen maybe.

Correct! Dawk is a cool guy and former guitar tech. I've bought some stuff from him in the past, such as pickups that came from a strat Ritchie smashed on one of the Rainbow tours!

Not sure how many strats had the neck epoxy'd, but he did this to at least a couple of the three-bolt ones. Fender eventually made a customshop set-neck version for Ritchie and a few were sold to the public. I had one custom made many years ago. Here's what the set neck looks like...

Oh man, Blackmore is one of my biggest influences since I was little kid. It all stared with me and a stack of quarters playing Smoke on the Water in the local restaurant Jukebox over and over and over. This is around age 6 or so. Fireball, Machine Head, and Made in Japan were life changing.

I glued the neck on my three bolt strat long ago. That thing was forever shifting in the pocket. Not any more!

Yeah he would glue the 3 screw necks on because they were prone to shift.

When I think of a Ritchie Blackmore Strat, I think of an early 1970s sunburst one with a maple board, like the one shown on the Machine Head album.
