Blues project...

Hey guys, I have a blues project to do, and I figured it would be cool if I could get input from many different people. I've answered the questions to the best of my ability, but would like to see what you guys have to say.

It would really help if you guys could give me some input! You don't even have to answer all of the questions, 1 or 2 would be GREAT.

These are all subjective so there is no right or wrong.

1) What are "the blues" to you?

2) What is the "gap" or literal opposites?

3) What is the dual setting or context?

4) What is the double view?

5) How are blues now and blues from the past different? (In any way, theme, tone, musically, etc.)

6) Why are the blues so vital? What influences of blues do you see today?

7) Why should people care? (I guess this refers to #6 as well)

8) What are the different styles and how do they differ?

9) What differentiates the blues from any other style of music?

10) Soul - What does it mean to you?

11) Anything else you want to add?

Any help will greatly appreciated!

You mean like a school project?

6) Why are the blues so vital? What influences of blues do you see today?

7) Why should people care? (I guess this refers to #6 as well)

8) What are the different styles and how do they differ?

9) What differentiates the blues from any other style of music?

Check out Ted Gioia's book "Delta Blues".

You'll get a lot from that.

Your #s 2, 3, and 4 sound like something lifted from questions a teacher has asked you (not to presume you're in school, but that's what they sound like) and is based on material covered in class or pointed to for research. I've never heard these terms used in a context of discussion of the blues as "terms" per se.

Good Luck.

It's not school... it's an private English class. No grades, etc. As I've said, I've done the research already and answered these questions to the best of my ability. I just want to see what everyone else has to say :AOK

And yes, some of the questions may not pertain to the blues per se, they are general questions and the topic was up to the presenter to decide, and I chose the blues. I've twisted some questions around to make it more relateable to the blues.

And thanks for the heads up, I'll check it out!

1) What are "the blues" to you?
Strats, Tubescreamers and Super Reverbs on 8

2) What is the "gap" or literal opposites?
The gap is between what most blues players want to play and what most audience members want to hear

3) What is the dual setting or context?
The dual setting is having TWO dudes blasting pentatonic minor solos on strats in one band
4) What is the double view?

The double view is a type of shuffle, also known as the whap-a-dang

5) How are blues now and blues from the past different? (In any way, theme, tone, musically, etc.)
Blues now is better because it is louder and has more solos

6) Why are the blues so vital? What influences of blues do you see today?
The blues are vital to baby boomer men in order to retain their mojos

7) Why should people care? (I guess this refers to #6 as well)
Because my blues band is REAL BLUES!!!

8) What are the different styles and how do they differ?
Blues/Rock is the only style that matters. Everyone knows this

9) What differentiates the blues from any other style of music?
There is less soloing in most other types of music. This is why other types of music are inferior

10) Soul - What does it mean to you?
Soul is bending pentonic notes out of tune.

11) Anything else you want to add?

Any help will greatly appreciated!

I added my answers above.

Hope this helps.

1) Get the book, "Deep Blues" by Robert Palmer, the best history/cultural analysis of the Blues.

2) a) Get the Chess box set. Listen to it all day, everyday for awhile
