as light as a feather, yet sounds bigger than you can imagine...
Dimensions and weight?
so...beautiful...must resist....must resist....GAS!!! Ah!!!!
Man that is killer!! Bob is the best!
stunning, I like your floors too!
hehe, good ol' cold wood floors ala NYC...
as for its story, i loved the compact size of the recent marshall 2x12's that were built for their handwired 18 watt plexi series. BUT, i didnt like the heavy weight, nor the bulky ugly look. thus, bob whipped this up for me.
its essentially a pine semi open back version of the marshall's handwired mini slant 2x12 cab, but w/ bob's slight tweaks to make it all his own. at 26" tall, 25" wide, and about 10.5" deep at the top, and 12" at the bottom, its about 4/5's the size of a regular marshall 4x12. as for the weight, unloaded, on my bathroom scale, its about 35 lbs.!!! tho, i kinda wish it had side handles like most real 4x12's, the leather handle is actually enough for most carries out of the apt, and into my car.
also, all that superbly resonant pine makes for one unbelievably HUGE tones. IMHO, i'll never go back to ol' birch.
btw, i first had it ship w/ a black vox grill cloth:
... to match my GDS 100 watter as shown:
but later figured it wouldnt really match my other amps. thus, bob was more than happy to help me out, and swap out for the marshall grill cloth which seems to complement my amps nicer.
if anything, bob as always was great to work with, and he gave me EXACTLY what i asked for. the cab was even pre-wired w/ parallel wiring, cause he knew i dug that.
Thats one of the nicest looking 2x12s I've ever seen. I bet it sounds killer too.
Bobs doing a hardwood/cane grill remake on a Jim Kelly FACS combo for me. Can't wait.
Great guy, great cabs.
Looks like you FINALLY got your GDS back?
does Bob have a website?
Bob Burt Custom Cabinets
Reminds me of the Matamp 2x12 - though it ain't light!
whoa! is this guy for real...those kickazz cabs at those prices are a steal!
Nice, Jae. That's an ideal 2x12.
What's the story on the Tone Tubbies? New ones?
He's definately for real. The cabs are wonderful sounding, light weight and have great GF/wife factor.
Great for rock, jazz, funk and almost everything else with some reservations for you metal fans!
Hot damn! Go back to the Vox cloth!!! The hell with matching your other amps. The plain dark cloth looks rather out of place to me with the blond tolex. The white diamonds in the vox cloth tie in with the blond tolex dramatically well. Sorry, just my 2 cents.
More props to Bob Burt: He made a custom vert 2x12 for another GPger that I ended up with for a Constellation that is the most elegant match I've ever seen. Also have a pair of 12 / 10 v cabs that absolutely kick ass. His cabs are among the best.
Isn't it soo cool when what you want comes out even better than you are hoping for? Nice get. Congrats.
and yea, the GDS is on its way back after getting an uber cool high gain mod that G's been workin' on. says its reminiscent of Larry Carlton's new thicker "high gain" tone of his recent album.
two 16 ohm H1E's in parallel for 8 ohms. fat, thick, burly sound w/ that voxy carve, and ideal for my single coils. you either hate 'em or love 'em, and i cant get enough of 'em. but i've also got a pair of Blues that i've long saved for just a cab like this, and i'm planning on wiring them in 16 ohms series just for some true voxy kicks.
that vox cloth is still beckoning me, but i'll probably do it later. been buggin' Bob enough as it is.
Bob Burt is THE cab guy as far as I'm concerned. Great to deal with, likes custom orders, wonderful craftsmanship and materials---at very reasonable prices. My fave cab is a Burt vertical 2x12 he made for my Constellation.
We should get together and put the GDS up next to my SLX50.
You need to hear the latest (and final) tweaks that Scott and Andy cooked up for the SLX. I know you love your ODS30, but this is something else.
And please leave Bob alone until he finishes my cab!
i've actually had my OD30 sitting at Andy's shop since last month! been soooo caught up w/ work that i havent had time to go back and pick it up.
