I heard from my dealer today that Bogner is reissuing the FISH preamp, taking orders in November and shipping early 2009. This should either raise the prices on the existing 250 units, or lower the price because more availability.

Plenty of Google info available...just a multi-channel preamp.

Hopefully Bogner releases the Alchemist soon.

    Wow, This is kickass news!

To the poster that's never heard of the Bogner Fish, Think Alice In Chains!

There were 236 give or take fish produced. As far as new ones. Don't count on it. The new owner of a very popular music store in Orange county just became a Bogner Dealer (he also happens to be very tight with Reinhold)
Is trying to purchase a used fish. My recent conversations with Reinhold also yield no news of a fish. If there were new ones around the corner we would know.

An Egnater M4 will probably still be cheaper (at $1999).
I wish there were more multi-channel tube preamps like these on the market, though. At least there would be some variety.
A rackmount, bypassable version (a'la Chandler Tube Driver) of the Crunch & Ultra channels from the JSX would be very cool.

I had a Bogner Fish in the late 80s

I probably shouldn't have sold it for $1200, huh ?? :jo

Not sure... I was just thinking about selling my ADA MP1... maybe a good time to do so!

I think rack gear is making a come-back. Lots of triaxis preamps being bought on ebay. ADA MP-1s galore on ebay too. It's 1986 all over again baby!

    I wouldn't count on a Fish reissue . . . highly doubt it.

If only they'd update it and cram an Uberschall lead channel in there; maybe take one other channel out to make room. I think that'd be a HUGE seller.

If you have ever played through one, and I count myself in the lucky minority who have, it smokes the Ecstasy or any other preamp section on any of his other amps. Provided you have a great power amp, like a VHT2150 or like. Totally the rock sound you could expect x10.

I think about the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) in Europe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restriction_of_Hazardous_Substances_Directive

Components like resistors can't be the same and the sound has to be different (have you ever listened a Landgraff overdrive and an Abunai overdrive?). The solution can be two differents editions (american and european) but I don't think so.

I know the list is opened but I'm not sure at all!

BTW, I can't remember a reissue like/better than the original. Please, remind me some examples...

If the Fish is so great and all that, why are there only 236 ever made

I don't know... the reason could be the price and a matter of exclusivity. Only a few (50/100) can buy the preamp so buyers are ready to pay any amount Bogner wants.

FYI: It's the most musical/beautiful gain I've played with (IMO).

Likely because it was introduced at a time when rack gear was no longer the "thing to have".

???? 89-91 was a peak time for rack gear.

I say raise, because someone will claim they sound better when in reality there will be no sonic difference between the units. These posts will be sourced from the people that own said 250 units thereby making a profit.:banana :messedup

    :jo

Oh and someone will post a gut shot a differently value capacitor and say that is the root cause of the sonic difference... this will be because the chip is no longer available..... but wait for it...... except from some exotic dealer that has a bizzilion of them in a bag in some warehouse who will then sell the 3 cent chip for a few hundred:banana :NUTS

Guitarists everyone will then install said chip, to get to original specs, then state their is a sonic difference supporting why the original sounds better....:dude

To take it one step further resale of the new units will be dependent on this mod, perhaps switchable...... via a toggle:banana :banana :banana :banana
