Bogner Shiva 212 combo

I can buy a Bogner Shiva 212 combo amp locally, they are asking $1700, I think I might get them down. It's c. 2003, a little rough around the edges, but perfectly functional, Celestion 30 12" speakers (2). AWESOME sounding amp, GREAT built in spring reverb. Seems like a reasonable price.

Should I get this? It was mighty tempting.

Reverb yes, it sounded great. I'll have to check on the tubes. It has a boost switch on the pedal.

What I don't quite get is why an amp of that quality wouldn't be worth $1600 or so, which is only about 55% the cost of a new model. As for the tube designation, all I can say is this friggin amp sounded phenomenal.

It is. $1600 i a good price for a Combo. I have no idea where a combo Shiva goes for $1100...Those figures aren't facts IMO.

13-1400 for a Head 14-1600 Combo is what I see Shiva EL34's going for

This sounds about right. The last 2x12 I saw for sale near me went for $1000, but it was pretty beat up on the exterior with lots of road wear.

I'd love to get another Shiva one of these days. The cleans on the EL34 1x12 that I used to have were some of the best cleans I've ever heard. The drive channel always left me wanting a bit more but that clean channel was really amazing.

That's a freak auction. Probably someone just a little too fired up that night. That's not what they normally sell for.

Although I'd call that crazier than the $1950 ebay sale....but I guess it goes to show prices are all over the place

I don't know boys, kind of made sense to me if they come down a bit on the price. The amp rocked. I was very impressed with the overall tone, and particularly the built in reverb. Gotta get back there and play it again.

It does have EL 34 tubes. Played it again today. It is the best sounding amp I have ever played. The want $1700 and they will not budge. I'll keep my eye on that one and look out for others. What really impresses me is I've never heard an amp where the overdriven tone sounds so clear even with reverb, usually that muddies things up.

I have 4 amps here, none of them sound that good.

It will be mine, one way or another.

I will say this: I've been resistant to sniffing amplifier cork, but mainly because I don't get to play pricey amps. See? I play one and I'm done.

That PRS DGT through that thing was my tone. That's it. Look, when you find your tone, you buy the friggin amp. Not for nothing, but these aren't so easy to find used out there, and this one is in great shape. I mean you had to hear this amp, that's the one.

Also, how would this amp sound with KT-88's compared to the 34's?

^ A little brighter with bigger and tighter low end, more open, glassier, harder. It's still a warm sounding amp, though, with KT88s. I've had both.
If you're loving the Shiva, you can get a used 20th Anniv Shiva head at that price. Much more convenient than the combos, imo. Even the 1x12 was a bit to haul around. The 2x12 would be a pita.
