Sambora without Bon Jovi...not bad (could use less Orianthi):

Yeah, I don't "Floyd" much these days, I'd love to get one of the MIMs and put a Bladerunner on it. (I'd still have to do the Humbucker bridge, tho...)

Well, Jon Bon Jovi can barely sing anymore, so a warm body on guitar would be the least of my concerns.

    If they had CC...

    I'd go see them.

I saw them at Wembley Stadium in 1995 and it was really the most impressive rock vocal performance I'd see - 2 hours in and Bon Jovi's voice was still fantastic. Saw them again maybe 2009 and it was weakening. On the Sirius live show a couple weeks back it was even weaker. Age gets us all! But he had a fantastic rock voice in his prime.

I never really was a fan of the band, back in the day.
But, was just listening to the Stranger In This Town album. This thread got me to do that ;-)
Richie's got a really nice voice. Pretty solid disc for sure.
Hope he gets his **** together as far as his addictions.
    It'd be a waste if he doesn't
    He is a talented guy.
I remember reading in years past that he was playing in bars, etc with a varied assortment of different types of bands way back.

The only song I like is "Wanted . . ." so as long as Phil can whip that out, who cares.

I hate large concerts now that I'm older but if these guys came to a smaller venue near me I would definitely go.

All of this, but especially the parts in bold - I've been saying these same things for years.

    Well said.

Also, this got me into listening to "stranger" again, so thanks for that!

That album is a M'er F'er! If I had to choose only ONE Richie album, I would likely choose Stranger over Slippery, Jersey, Faith, and Days- Bon Jovi's 4 most heralded albums.

They were dead to me when they fired Alec John Such.

I scroll all the way through this with a great idea, and the LAST POST says it for me? WTFFFFFFF

Yes they were done for me when they fired the outlaw Alec John Such. Actually only respected him because he was fired. HAHA

    No, not a fan.

Ha. Yeah, couldn't believe it hadn't been said. Maybe it's just one for old guys like me.

Alec John Such.... had some fantastic bass lines. But he was fired because he no longer gave a damn, and made far too many mistakes live. There's footage of a concert in Rio he fell 8 or 9 times ON STAGE- obviously too drunk, high, or both, to play. Rock star? maybe. Functional band member? No. They aren't Motley Crue.

And I reiterate- I thought he was a great bass player, he had great lines.

But yeah- Keep The Faith was their last GREAT album (with Alec).

    Huge!

I'll have to listen to it. I like Bon Jovi, like Bruce better.

He helped a lot of there hits with Sambora & JBJ. All of their biggest hits are JBJ, Sambora & most of the time Child.

Yeah, that sucks, I never heard that before.

Next to Zakk Wylde, Richie produces the most pinch harmonics, but I like it.

Yeah, ok, but yes, for most of the females that go see Bon Jovi, most don't care, some do.

Like Pat Travers, I think not. Bon Jovi gets air play on rock, classic rock & country stations all across the world. Plus, JBJ has a $hit load of money.

Yes, Richie's voice now is better than Jon's. Jon can't sing the high parts anymore, it was Richie and David Bryan for a while.

Wow, I would love to hear more about that. I believe it too.

    Probably true.

    Agreed!

Personality-challenged? What, the dude has charisma, charm and can carry good conversations in his interviews.

I've seen interviews where he said he needed to spend time with his daughter. I think part of him leaving was also due to alcohol. I think he just wanted a long break from the touring.

Not a Bon Jovi guitarist without playing on an album. Has he?

I agree, Richie smokes Phil. When you can write as many songs as Richie has with solos that you can sing to, don't let me anything about Phil X.

Always less Orianthi. It must be cool though to be able to talk guitars in bed at night.

    WHY?

I would love to see that footage. Do you have a link?

Wonder what he is doing now?
