Hey,

Anyone have a BF-2 and modded it????

I did this to my BF-2 and it sounds slightly warmer and a little more chorusy and less flangy. I can't get the Van Halen jet flanger sounds on Unchained I could get with the stock unit. I guess that is fine because I tend to use more chorusy sounds anyway.

I did the Fromel Electronics mod.

I did the Vintage MXR option as well which was too caps.
Vintage Flanging – You can tune the BF-2 to sound very similar to the vintage MXR flanger, parts and instructions are included for this option
I am not sure I want to keep this option.

On a side note....can anyone tell me what the Manual knob does??????

The big problem I find with the Boss BF-2, even modded is distortion on the notes.

I've had the same problem with me DOD Supersonic Flanger... So I thought about getting a BF-2 since a lot of my favourite guitar players use it... but now I got a Digitech EX-7 in the mail that has a flanger model based on the A/DA flanger...

The best mod I have found was to sell the BF2 and buy the HF2. Much better.

you can turn you BF-2 into an HF 2 by changing the BBD to a MN3204 - that's the only difference between the two. Not the easiest chip to get your hands on though.

When the LFO (i.e. the Depth control) is shut down, the Manual control places the wet signal in or out of phase with the dry signal for comb-filtering effect. You will get more filtered signal at 1ms and less at 13ms. Anyplace in between the travel of the control will get in-phase boosting when passing by a filter notch. This is similar to the Electric Mistress Filter Matrix control, only that the EM does that with the Depth control when the Filter Matrix is on.
Funny that is how I use the BF-2.....more fun than the usual notched wah sound, I use my HF-2 for flanging, the BF-2 is my frozen filter thingie:D
Sounds downright spooky at times:cool:

It controls the initial delay time of the wet signal, from 13ms to 1ms. Beware that it works backwards. Maximum delay time is when the Manual control is at zero.

When the LFO (i.e. the Depth control) is shut down, the Manual control places the wet signal in or out of phase with the dry signal for comb-filtering effect. You will get more filtered signal at 1ms and less at 13ms. Anyplace in-between the travel of the control will get in-phase boosting when passing by a filter notch. This is similar to the Electric Mistress Filter Matrix control, only that the EM does that with the Depth control when the Filter Matrix is on.

The Depth control in the BF-2 does also control the delay time, only that it controls the delay time width of the LFO. It goes from 0ms to 12ms. If the Depth control is turned to 12ms the Manual control will have no effect, because the LFO goes from a delay time of 1ms to a delay time of 13ms (i.e. 13ms - 1ms = 12ms). Moving the Manual control clockwise and counter-clockwise manually gets the same effect the LFO does periodically, thus the Manual labelling. This is noticeable when the LFO is turned to 0ms.

With the Manual control at 1ms you get that finger on the flange of the tape phased sound. With the Manual control at 13ms you get chorus or double-tracked sound.

The BF-2 owner manual has little information to understand the pedal. The BF-1 owner manual is very helpful instead, even providing sample settings, and the controls are the same on both units.

Regards

INteresting you mention setting the manual at max for chorus sounds because I find chorus tones best in this with manual at noon! Thanks for the info!

On the distorted notes someone mentioned........I moved the pedal into the loop and it fixed the issue! :)

Love my BF-2 and wouldn't change a thing about it - many useful sounds to be found .
