Boss DS-1 going bad

Seems like everything I touch these days goes wrong.

I bought a modded DS-1 off of CL years ago. Basically something was done to remove some of the mud/bass..worked fine.

It sat for a couple of years, then I fired it up again. Was working OK, then last few days something happened...the tone control, which normally is pretty dull all the way down, isn't working as well, meaning the tone doesn't change much all the way through the dial. the sound is kinda farty/mushy, and has an almost ring modulation effect going on. Just doesn't sound right.

Could the mod have gone bad? It's being powered by and adapter and no battery is inside...

What to do?

God knows what might have happened if some rando opened the pedal and poked around with a soldering iron. Have you looked inside it? Anything look iffy?

I guess I'll do that. But it was working fine, so something seem to have fried, or gone bad...very strange. Never had a pedal do this.

Take some pics of the inside and try posting on a DIY pedal forum and on here.

Easy guess is a cold solder joint. The board may have artifacts (darker spots or more solder) where the mod was done. Look close for disconnects on those connections.

I might even try just heating those spots to get the solder to flow again, but I'm a hack when it comes to h/w.

clean the input and output jacks too while you’re at it.
