I remember having a Boss BF-2 Flanger years ago. This was way back in the "Police" era and I thought it sounded great. It was also stolen a long time ago, but I recently thought I might grab one up on Ebay.

Anyone have any opinions on how the older BF-2 compares to the newer BF-3? Also, I see some people touting the "made in Japan" banner and was wondering if and how that made a sonic difference.

    Thanks,
    Kenny M.

The MIJ BF-2 is the best sounding of the Boss Flangers, but the BF-2 is just kinda so-so. It is not on par with other series 2 pedals like the VB-2 and DM-2, PN-2, etc. That's why you can get one in nice condition for about $45. I have one and I would ditch it if I could find something with the same footprint in true bypass. Maybe the forthcoming smaller Foxrox flanger will be just the thing.

I liked it, a bit metallic for my taste. I always thought my MXR flange was great. I sold it because I never used it. I do not like the new bf-3, kind of bland and cheesy to my ears.

I did just that, MIJ Boss BF-2, $40.00

...now I wish I had gotten an MXR, they are just more organic.

I've got an MIJ BF-2 and I like it a lot. I've also got an Ibanez SF-10 that I like a bit better as it can really go over the top :crazy

I've owned both. Both are kind of metallic, but sometimes that can be good. I prefer the BF-2 (the BF-3 is digital).
