I played a used GT-100 last week, and I experienced some encoder sensitivity issues, especially on the page where you select the type of effect. Sometimes it would over shoot the selection and times it wouldn't move as fast as I wanted.

I know this is a version 1.x unit, because of the lack of the new version 2 effects. Unfortunately, I could not check the exact firmware version, because at the time I didn't know the button combination to press when starting up the unit.

Is this a known issue for an early version of the firmware, or should I steer clear of this unit?

The first of the GT-100 firmware 1.01 had a knob sensitivity issue.
You can update the firmware easy enough to version 2,
if you get the firmware download from the Boss/Roland site, it also has instructions on how to check your firmware level, and a list of the improvements each firmware version had.

Sometimes rotary encoders crap out too, but they are easily replaceable by a tech'.
