Super late to the game here, tried a Katana Artist 50 combo at GC the other day. Plugged a $150 Epi SG into it on the lowest wattage setting. The Brown setting with gain below 9 o'clock was really good. Spot on Angus Young on a budget. I don't remember eq settings but I'm sure I had the mids on full and bass below noon. Treble and presence to taste, generally I vary those with volume. NO FX or Reverb, yuck. I could gig that setting anywhere, as good as any modeler I've tried including my AX8. Clean was quite good too. Didn't much care for the other modes, but brown and clean were all I'd need.

Saved my Brown settings to every preset switch, so the next kid could could experience great tone :)

I typically like and own tube amps from old designs. Recently at guitar center I was turned on to this amp. The guy playing it was getting great tonez

For anyone with a DYI interest of a 4 button footswitch for the K50, check out the users group on facebook. Code and build info provided.
Free Boss Katana Patches is the group name. Cool of the bloke to share it. Might do something similar for the K100 if I get around to it. I'd kinda like to have instant access to 6 presets vs the current setup.

ah shoot, don't quote me on that. It said Artist for sure and looked like a 1x12. Whatever they've been making I'm sure it was that

Haha no worries. The Artist is actually 100w, but has a 50w setting.

I picked a Katana 100w up the other day and I'm pleasantly suprised. You can get some great tones with the Tone Studio. Perfect practice/home amp and I could easily gig with this.

Only thing I want to try is another speaker. Just to make sure it's an 8ohm correct?

    Yes thanks so much!

I really am loving this amp! The Dumble and the Plexi/TubeScreamer patches are amazing!

Nice patches! Sounds good at low volume.

I'll have to turn up the volume later and do a little tweaking... Thank you! B)

I've been trying for 1 year to like my Katana artists and I am not able to get it to sound good. The low and high end frequencies are just fine but the mids seems completely sterile, almost like there is an empty pocket with artificial sounding frequencies in the mids. I have tried a few times to use the EQ in tone studio but struggle to add in a natural sounding mid range. The mid knob on the amp is centered on a very strange frequency, too high-mid for my tone. The crunch channel sounds so strange to my ears, very different from a crunchy Marshall. Could it be that this amp is not playing well with the Fat 50's pickups in my Strat? I see a lot of praise for this amp online but I just don't hear it when I take this amp to practice and gigs.

The other thing is that the problem I have with the mids I also hear in my Fender mustang IV and I hear it in a lot of digital amp demo videos, like the new tonemaster series. Certainly if all digital had this problem in the mid-range others would hear it as well...??? BUT many people seem to love the Katana amps and say they sound the closest to tubes of any digital amp they have heard.

What Amp did you model that preset after? Or did you just "tweak" until you got it the way you wanted it?

I run my Katana 100 head through a Bogner 4x12 cab (closed-back) loaded with V30s. Sounds fantastic. 99% of the time, I'm on Brown, eq-ed it to taste and that's it. No Tone Studio, no sneaky amps. I've heard/tried the lower wattage heads and combos and don't like those nearly as much as the 100w head through a great cab.
