How do most of the names mentioned qualify?

Lots of great instruments, but they don't really have their own take on the Strat unless they're using different build techniques, pickups voiced to their specs (Or better yet, made in house), exclusive hardware or other things that set that instrument apart. In other words, they're attempting to build a better mousetrap.

Wouldn't it have to be more than just building a Strat REALLY well?
