Breaking Bad fans...did they ever explore Gus Fring's South America/Military past?

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there some side story where Gus got into some kind of dust up with a South American government or military power and he couldn't go back to that country or have I lost my mind? Did they ever address it? The thing that got me thinking about this was the development and beginning back story of Mike Ehrmantraut character on Better Call Saul.

    And IIRC, pretty much everyone who knew of his past was scared shitless of him.

    were they scared of him or his connection? I don't recall exactly, but I thought they made some reference to him being protected by someone in Chile. I think it was during one of the swimming pool scenes in Mexico.

    Fring was a bad mofo. A particular employee he kept very close can verify his willingness to go to extreme lengths to prove a point.
