when I heard it at NAMM, I was floored. All that cranked AC30 tone...in one knob. Probably the most amazing amp i have heard to date.

Interesting. How unique is that half power mode? As unique as they say--I seem to recall another builder doing something similar.

Why even have a volume knob... you got one of those on every guitar, right? Heh, heh...

Well I do have a point, if you notice "The mainstay of Brian's tone has been the AC30's Normal Channel fed from a small treble/mid boost pedal both usually played flat out"

one knob makes sense, it's the old "normal" channel...

basically, it's an unhotrodded spitfire with another pair of output tubes. haha

so if that picture is of the control panel, uh... where do you plug the guitar in? and where are the treble booster controls? Back panel someplace?

yes, the input jack is on the back. Retail will be 3 grand with street around 2300.

It is based on the Brian May modded amp depicted in these photos:
    http://homepage.mac.com/martinpitcher/PhotoAlbum4.html

Basically it is a proprietary Vox version of the same amp that May had modded by his tech.

    And I believe it's only a 500 amp run.

I checked with North Coast and the price quoted above is accurate.
The amps should be shipping to dealers in April or May..

I wonder if they are being produced in China or England..

Well, would anyone pay 3K or so for an amp made in China?
    I think England....................;)

Normal channel only. I sure would miss the cut control more than anything. To call it minimalist would be an understatement!

It's basically a single-purpose amp - to sound like Brian. They wired in his EQ settings and that's why there's only one knob.

    Cool concept.

    Killer sound!

What's the deal with the amp in your pics? Is that a prototype or something or one of Brian's actual modded amps? I'm cornfused.

Are you saying they wired in fixed R/C values for the treble and bass settings? That's the first I've heard that. I thought they just eliminated EQ. Do you know what his settings were/are?

I was lucky enough to wander around Radiohead's stage before a show a few years back and both Ed and Jonny have a similar "minimal" panel on their AC-30s ........ a volume control was all that i recall - surprised me at the time - but makes perfect sense if you want the same tone each time you switch on.....Bradz

Brian May only ever used the Normal Channel. There is no EQ on that channel, just a cut knob which is always run wide open (the eq knobs only effect the briliant channel) So no need for any fixed eq even if there was such a thing
