Brightening a dull sounding guitar via pot values

    where do i get more bang for the buck- volume pot or tone pot? got a tele w/ tvjones filtertrons that needs a little kick.

    The volume pot I suppose, as it will raise the entire output.

    The tone pot, because of the cap, will only raise the high resonance.

    On the other hand, the change of the volume pot is fixed, whereas you can turn the tone pot down if it's too much.

    You don't say what pots you have in that Tele, if they are the stock 250K's you would probably be advised to change them to 500K's, since those Filtertrons are humbuckers. I would replace the volume(s) first, if that isn't enough of a change you could then change the tone pot(s).

    I always try some De Oxit cleaner first. Then the volume pots.
