I have a 212 cab I'm going to use with a Budda SD II 18 watt head and am wondering which speakers you guys prefer? The cab is currently empty so I'm looking for suggestions. Thanks.

I tried various eminences and celestions with this amp. I found the original ones sounded best and went back to them. (budda phats). I also realized that of all the Eminences they were my favorite Emi's in general even with other amps. You can find them cheap on Ebay even though since they are OEM they might not be available separately.

I'm using an Avatar 2x12 with CL80s with my SD45.
I love the tone I'm getting. Way better than the PHAT speakers.
I play Classic Rock.

I've tried a bunch of different speakers with my SD18 in a 2x12. The Eminence Cannabis Rex sound the best to me.

I have a bunch of 12" speakers and I like trying them out in different amps.
With my Budda SD18 combo I've tried:

Stock Budda Phat speaker
Celestion reissue (Chinese) greenback
90's UK greenback
Heritage greenback
Weber Legacy 30 watt (vintage type greenback)
Celestion Anniversary H30
Weber 1230 (H30) with pre-rola doping
Celestion Vintage 30

My favorite is the Weber Legacy 30 watt. Sounds really nice for that old greenback vibe.

Great info...thanks. I'm in a cover band and we do mostly classic dance rock stuff.

+1 on the stock Budda Phat 12s. My came to me with a V30 in there and I found it awfully bright and lacking low-end.

I prefer the Celestion CL80 or Mesa MC90 or WGS British/Classic Lead in my SD18 combo.
Their tone shifts the overbearing & harsh upfront mids (Eminence Phat's have way too much of) further back & allows the Superdrives EQ a more useable range, imo.

I've been using the Celestion GT12-75's in my Mesa cabinet... They're kind of scooped, but with the head being so mid-rangey in the first place it makes up for it. I do want to try some CL80's or some kind of Eminence in this cab, though. Something a bit more 'classic rock'.

ive tried a handful of speakers with my SD18 head
right now i have a Scumback M75 and Eminence Governor that works REALLY great because they're not bright and trebly.
I seem to get ear fatigue with brighter speakers.
i was going to get an H75 to go with the M75 but it's too bright and the Governor is totally awesome anyway

I'm going to bump this out of curiosity...don't have a Budda but am gas'ing bad for a SD45 head or so.

I've got two 2x12 cabs...a 440 Live with V30s and a Sourmash 1936 clone with Greenback RIs. Thoughts or comments about how the SD amps sound with either speakers? If I were to chase one down...really don't think I would want another cab lol.

Thanks guys.

I have used my Budda SD18 II head with several different speakers. I have a 2x12 cabinet with a Scumback M75/H75 speaker mix and another 2x12 cab with a Celestion G12H30/Vintage 30 mix. The amp sounds great with both cabs. I have also used the amp with a 1x12 cab with an Alnico Cream which sounds absolutely fantastic.

I had a Budda that was fairly dark sounding, can't remember the model. It loved Scumback H75's as they're a bright, lively speaker.

I've owned this as a 1x12 combo; the V30 is a crappy match for the Superdrive series amps - no love lost, just not the right match. Try the Weber 30w vintage legacy, or maybe the Scumback recommendations here.

I've got a 45w SDII 1x12 combo and 30W head with matching 4x12.

I swapped out the Phat 12 in the cabinet with V30s which IMO are favorable in the closed back, while the Phat sounds glorious in the open back combo.

I might swap the chassis around so that the 30w is in the combo and the 45 drives the cab. Either way, they both sound awesome.
