Burst Sweetness!

My guitar bud lent me his Burst (TB). Very resonant, moderate weight, and with a very sweet voice.

Absolutely no harshness, very rich midrange/vocal quality, long ringing sustain. Compared to any new build I have played, this baby is far more musical and comfortable to play. Lightly distressed finished makes it like worn in jeans/sneakers.

Sounds spectacular through my Carol-Ann and my buds Bludo...and on par, or to my buddies' taste, sweeter than my JG BM Semi. The Semi is more open sounding, a bit more articulate with a brighter EQ.

Photo removed.

Looking acquire a Retrospec.

But this isn't a burst - it's a copy. Right?

What's the point of pretending and hiding the head logo?

So, is it a screamer or a moaner? I know that sounds a silly question, but the originals came in some VERY different flavors. Of mine, one is a blues machine-the two pickups sound very different with the neck being very warm and "bluesy", and plugged into a low gain amp you can express anything just by keeping the switch in the middle and adjusting the volumes. The other is a rock machine-into a clean amp the two pickups don't sound all that different but crank up the gain and the bridge pickup screams with harmonics and the neck thumps and thuds with great chunk, and overall it sustains a long time. So, which is yours?

any "52-"60 les paul made by anybody after 1961(because there were a few black beauties that came off the line in "61) is a copy.

as far as theft of intellectual property, what are your thoughts on any non martin dreadnaught?
Second that! A copy is a copy imo...it may be the greatest copy known to man but it's still theft of intellectual property for profit.

What is "tb" btw?

"Theft of intellectual property" is one thing. (and it's actually "trademark violation" which is different)

"For profit" is another.

Often in these cases (I would say "the vast majority of the time"), only the former applies. Especially when you take into account the value of an expert's time.

Frank, that guitar is stunning.

"intended for profit", then. If he isn't actually making a profit then he's a bad businessman, too.

Not to derail the thread, but as I find myself possibly in the market for one of these premium amps, what are the similarities and differences, and which, if either, is more suited to a bluesy rock style? Please PM to avoid derailing the thread. Beautiful guitars, BTW. Don't know who TB is, but he appears to do excellent work and seems to have an impressive stash of tone wood.

That would depend on whether or not it said "Martin" on the headstock...

If it does, it's a counterfeit, no matter the quality, or how "nice a guy" the builder is, or how much he made on it.

What do you think would happen if Gibson ever took one of these guys to court?

The builders are well aware of that, which is why they hide...

Indeed.

You could even say that it's because of the above that so many people are getting Boned.
