we have all gotten the email for a guitar or something we want to sell where the person first tells you how many issues there are with your thing then offers a low offer. Does this work?
I am selling an old video game locally and I have two guys who keep using this tactic. If what I have is such a piece of crap why would you buy it? And if I do not think it is then why would I sell it to someone who starts off as trouble?
The question, do lowball offers get taken more after the beat down or after someone is nice but offers half?

I would respond to them exactly as you have stated here, and then ignore them from here on out.

I would respond that their mother/sister is ugly too but you'd still have sex with her. You know, by their logic.

    "Well it's dinged up"

Yea.....that's why I priced it like I did.

I hate when people do that. Personally, I'd rather give a deal to a guy that's nice and just asks if I'd go a little lower when we're closer to making the deal.

Just tell them you'll get more pleasure throwing it in the garbage then to sell it at that price, given there are so many issues with it.

I've never had anyone email me with weird reasoning for low-ball offers, ever. They just sound like morons making up reasons to justify their haggling. Just ignore them or tell them to **** off.

probably the same kind of people who bitch about buying a "POS" and a month later are selling it as "The best sounding and playing guitar they've ever owned."

I counter with something to the effect of "I know, it's priced accordingly, by your reaction to it, I guess it's not for you. That's cool, thank you for your time." Then i move on. Life is too short to deal with that unnecessary and horrible tactic. The ugly mom/sister analogy is how I see it, too. Lame.
I'm way more bendable on price by nice dealings.

Thankfully, I've never had that happen here... but have had those flakes who make an offer, and when it's accepted, they don't pay. I think all of those idiots are cut from the same cloth... :messedup

Actually flies are far more attracted to vinegar than honey.

This old saying should be retired as its juts factually inaccurate and belies the point trying to be made.

(Ugh, yes I know I'm being that guy. I just really hate that saying, even though I agree with the sentiment it's trying to portray.).

These people irk me too. But in reality... all is fair in war and negotiations. I think these guys win a certain percent of the time.
