I was at Indoor Storm yesterday to see my good friend Eddie Berman and to try out some amps. Well, I tried a Fuchs OD50 and it was good. But then Eddie plugged me into John Suhr's CAE OD 100 set on the clean channel. I played a chord and I was floored. I have been playing for over 25 years and have had many boutique amps but none of them compare to the clean tones I heard from the OD100. I looked at Eddie after I had been playing for over 30 minutes and my jaw was on the floor, Eddie smiled and said," I feel ya". And that was just the clean channel! Eddie then switched me to the dirty channel and it was drop jaw sydrome again:eek: :) I played for another 30 or 40 minutes. I told Eddie that I haven't had this much FUN playing an amp in many many years. I think I have found my holy grail. And get this, it was the regular stock CAE OD100! No Henderson mods or SE channel, just the stock stuf and it rocked :dude I 'm 46 years old and I think I know what I want for my 47th bday in July.
Congratulations Mr.John Suhr:) :) for making a truly great tone machine.
p.s. I also tried out a Carr Rambler 2x10 combo with an Xotic BB pedal and got some fantastic tones as well. Not like the CAE but close enough for low volume gigs.

I have two OLD greenback cabs ready to go!!
One from '72 and another from '69.
I have two Bogner 4x12's also, one with Blackback (55hz) 25 watters (my all time fav's) and another with G12H's.
    It'll be an A/B/C/D experiment...

I haven't heard a single person put down the cleans, so that's good. It's the OD that seems the point of contention.

John, what speakers were your reference for this amp??

I'm waiting for Boston Guitar to get one in stock, and I'll be there in a heartbeat for a demo....

    Herbert
    Einstein
    Uberschall
    Super Ecstasy Classic (one off)
    Super Shiva (one off)
    Splawn Quick Rod

    Custom Reverb Sig

    To name a few.

It is an awesome amp to my ears.

So the Scott Henderson mod sounds like a good move...

As far as the gain channel, what is the call for a blues/rock player? The SE mod or not? Are there other mods for the gain channel as well? Can one have both the SH and SE mods in the same head?

From what Steve (Snider) and John (Suhr) have said, the trim pot for adjusting the gain (for boost) is NOT part of the SE+ modded 0D100.
Another words, again from what I understand, the gain boost on the SE+ is set and that's what boost you get.
Now, the gain for channel two (with or without boost) is all from the front gain control on the SE+ OD100.
On the SH OD100, you have the front gain control, plus the trim pot to set the amount of the boost.
    There....
    I think that's right.

I have been told that you can ONLY have it one way...
    SH OD100 OR SE+ OD100.
    Not both.

That's what I had heard, but then I found one at www.tonemerchants.com that has both mods.

    http://www.tonemerchants.com/Custom_Audio_Amps.htm

This custom head in handsome purple tolex from Suhr/CAA has the SH (Scott Henderson) mod on channel 1 for a more vintage clean and overdrive sounds while channel 2 has the SE mod for the boosted mode that gives it the gain and tonal characteristics of CH3 of the much acclaimed CAA 3+SE preamp.

Ok... I see what you guys mean now.
Yes ... SH clean and SE+ mod for ch 2.

But you still lose the trim pot for the boost control, right Steve?

So now I am on the verge of understanding but may be misinformed still. Maybe this will be helpful to others than myself, I hope. Let's see where I am misinformed or correct.

The basic amp has two channels, each channel has a boost, and the footswitch allows boosting of only the gain channel.

The SH mod is a mod to the basic clean channel, it's not a mod of the boost mode itself.

The SE mod....is that a mod to the gain channel itself, or is it a mod that makes the gain channel when boosted, sound like the gain channel of the third channel of the SE? i.e. do you end up with a standard gain channel with a modified boosted gain mode, or do you end up with a modified gain channel that can then in turn be boosted?

Now finally, standard models have a trim pot to control the amount of boost each channel gets....you guys are saying when you get the SE mod, you lose the trim pot on the gain channel. Is that the same for the SH mod on the clean channel?

phew....my mind is like a bear trap...nothing gets in and nothing gets out!

By the way... Don't feel bad, Bro!
    I'm lost too!
I was on the phone the other day with my visa ready to order one, when I saw another thread about the SE+ mod that didn't make sense...
