I picked up an old Crybaby last night on CL. It's pretty dirty and it's missing the backplate and rubber feet(bummer) and its sporting a Clarostat EJ Made in Mexico pot (I take it the original would have been an ICAR(another bummer) and it's also missing the battery clip. However, I got it for an absolute steal!

Based on the board, the teal Arco caps and filmcan inductor, I take it this is a 68/69 Italian Vox/Crybaby? After the new year I plan on getting this baby to the doctor and back in action. What kinda tones should I expect after I have it fixed up? I've never owned a vintage wah before.

Ask Kyle Chase at Chase Tone, he'll be able to tell you all you want to know. That's who I'd send it to as well to repair it.

Very short throw if the front and rear bumpers are in place and more "whacka whacka" than "wah wah". I'm working on cleaning up a damn near identical Vox V846 for @wingwalker.

    That's a beautiful score! Congratulations!

I'll bet @joegagan might have something to add about that wah.

I'm interested in knowing the exact date on this Crybaby...

All of the gut shots I've seen online seem to point it at a 68 or 69. Trust me, I'd love to know as well!

One of those years sounds right on the money. I owned a transitional Crybaby that was very similar to yours, except the transistors were different, and it had the ICAR pot. The sweep and tone were very close to my Clyde picture wah, only it had a little more grit or gain if you will. Very useable, fun wah with some nice vintage tone to it. A few places make a good replacement ICAR type pot, so don't be too worried about that. If you paid a good price for it, then you got a real winner!

You might want to sterilize that thing before bringing it in the house.

Yeah, I've tried a first shot at cleaning it up but not much is coming off, but the price I paid for it, I'd eat breakfast off of it.
