Can I please get help to find a Fender model by serial number?

It is supposed to be a 1996 American Fat Strat 50th Ann. but I am not sure if it is the real deal.
    The serial number is N6116806
It has the oval 50th ann. coin on the back of the headstock.
    Could this be a Japanese?

    Thanks in advance,
    Gregory

Off the top of my head, I would say it is a 1996 also. 2006 was the Fender 60th anniversary so it is possible it is genuine.

After I put up my last post, I remembered that I had a '96 strat. It had the 50th anniversary sticker on the back of the headstock also. It could just be a "promotional" sticker marking the 50th anniversary of Fender. I think the actual 50th anniversary commemorative models however, had the neck plate engraved.

It does verify that the guitar is a '96, but I think he is asking if it really is an anniversary model, rather than a strat with the 50th anniversary sticker pasted to the headstock. Fender stuck that decal on all their strats if I'm not mistaken...mine was a tex mex strat and had the decal on it too.

Actually, I think they stuck the "50th Anniversary" sticker on the back of every guitar made in 1996 since it was the 50th anniversary of the company. There were some special "50th Anniversary" models, but I remember them being American Standards (Strat, Tele, P-Bass and J-Bass) with figured maple tops.

Also, the N6XXXXX serial number does indicate the Strat in question is a USA, but if it's a Fat Strat it's not the special model.

That sticker was put on everything in '96.

I have a Am. Std. in oly white with the sticker and used to have a '96 Vibrolux that also had the sticker on it.

Yeah, they also put the 50th Anniversary Strat sticker on every American Series in '04, which confuses a lot of people. The serial number does seem to match an American Strat for '96, though.

    Yes.

1996 was the 50th anniv for Fender the company not the 50th strat anniv.

Right, Fender was formed in 1946; the Stratocaster first appeared in 1954. (So this year Fender has all the 60th Anniv. stuff).

I have mine on consignment at a friends shop and am hoping for $650 or so and it's a 9-9.5 out of 10. No dings at all. None.
