Not because they can't nail the tones.. But can you really have the blues when you're paying $4k for your guitar?

"I woke up this mornin
Checked my 401k
Only 90,000 in there
On a rainy day

Yeaaaah I got the stock option blues

Well my housekeeper forgot
To clean the 3rd floor bathroom
And my new old stock amp tubes
Don't have the haunting mids I could use

Yeaaaah I got the $1000-PAF-pickup-set's-late-in-the-mail blues

And thank you for having such a great sense of humor :mmm

It was almost funny the first time I heard it. I don't think the internet had been invented yet though. You're probably the first one to tell it on the internet.

I can see where you're coming from to an extent...

I'd be dubious of a 20 year old who's never really experienced anything in life singing or playing the blues, but...

Even people who seem to have plenty money may have experienced hardships that they can relate to. They may have experienced poverty when they where younger, relationship break ups or a whole manner of things.

They may have started off on a cheap beater guitar and become successful with their blues music which enabled them to afford an expensive guitar.

Maybe they're not well off at all but saved for many years for the guitar of their dreams.

Blues isn't just about harships. Blues can be joyful too! :)

Most of my favourite blues players aren't playing on cheap guitars.

Judging from my time on TGP, it seems like blues is pretty much exclusively played on Gibson Historics and PRS Guitars. Lot of love here for the 5 note scale.

you can be a millionaire or billionaire and still have the blues. All it takes is getting done wrong by a woman. Look at mel Gibson. He had the blues.

Now, PLAYING the blues, well, that takes some skill and the gift of expressing your pain through your guitar.

IMO, yes, the blues can be played on a PRS or Historic LP.

Next time I see BB King play or if I get an opportunity to see Buddy Guy play I will find an Historic LP or a PRS to lend them for the show and we'll find out.

Lissen Jack, when the VIX options you levered against the backwardation of the contango on the WTI futures trade break the limit-down versus the CMBX unhedged to the CC non-agency spread over the JPY spot, you'll be singing the blues, too!

I think being able to sing:

My woman just left me,
My dog just died etc etc etc

is not subject to the size of your pay check. Rich people have problems too - they might not even be able to keep up the repayments on the R9...............

But we all know that ´blues´ these days is much more than poor folks complaining about life - don´t we? Or maybe time for another ´what is blues´ thread? - actually no, it´s not............

There are many youtubes out of Buddy Guy playing a White PRS with three single coils ...
Ain't no lack of soul can be found in the youtubes ...

Some of those vintage Gibsons the Blues-Greats had were 2 to 4 grand (inflation corrected) when new. Back in the day they just saved up and bought them used. The only difference today is forgetting this thanks to seeing the past through rose colored glasses, ignoring inflation of goods and salaries, and now being accustomed to relatively nice imported guitars that (inflation corrected) would of cost $15 had they been available new back then.
