The guitar that starts at 00:13.... what does it sound like?
It should be Springsteen's telecaster, but my tele sounds thinner and fizzier and... just very different from that one, even through a big sounding Victoria Bassman amp!

Any idea to get that punchy tone? Notice how the notes remain separated one from the others, yet the sound is fairly dirty!

Sounds like a Gretsch guitar with filtertron pickups through a Vox type amp, slightly overdriven.
    Thats just my guess.

My headphones are pretty crappy, but I'd agree with Vox, maybe with a chorus or flanger???

Definitely a brighter tone than a tweed Bassman, but a compressor may help you get the punchiness and note separation you're looking for.

Sounds like an overdriven AC30 to me. There's a number of pedals that can approximate that sound.

    Isn't that a 12-string?

Sounds a bit like an octave effect in there - 1 oct up, so the oct up is a bit louder than the normal guitar.

Definitely chime from the Filter'Trons (probably TVs), and probably some EL84-driven amp, most likely a Vox for that extra chime. It's like double chime.

Edit - You can solidly see him sitting on top of Blackface Fender with a Gretsch 6120.

Double edit - Man was I off too, it's chimey because he's playing Dynasonics. I should know better. :D

I'm guessing Fender medium picks are being used.

You can get a similar amp tone out of a Deluxe. Some of those old 6V6s give up a nice tone like that.
