Do you have any tricks for making the side-dots on your guitar neck more visible on a dark stage? I watched a rig rundown recently and they showed an Ibanez that let you "charge" the side dots with a light so they would glow for a while afterward. Cool idea but doesn't help with your existing guitars

I use a silver sparkle sharpie and draw bigger dots.

Make sure your backup has a maple neck!

There are stickon fret markers on ebay.
Not sure about side markers. You could cut your own.

The only guitars I ever had that problem with were PRS. I would use glow tape as another poster posted above. The guitarists from Chevelle did the same thing and that's where I got the idea. Never had issues seeing the dots with any other brand of guitar.

Some people replace the side dots with things like Cubic Zirconia - isn't it the Gatton Tele that has these stock? Where you could find small barrel-shaped bits of it is beyond me. Anyway, the stuff you saw him charging was probably Luminlay; it's charged with a little blue flashlight, and lasts for hours afterwards.

Hang your guitar higher or lose a lot of weight.

The gatton tele has small cubic Zirconias in place of black dots. I have no idea what the size is, but they're drilled and glued just like the dots are. I have a Gatton and can testify they work quite well.

Are they flat on the top, like normal side dots? Or faceted a bit?

Faceted. They actually stick up quite a bit.

Luminlay is what you are looking for. I used to ply a pitch black stage in Vegas. The other guitarist had them in his Tyler and, while I searched desperately for the dots on my Suhr, he happily knew exactly where he was at all times. Great product!
