So Carl Verheyen did a guitar clinic out at the Voodoo Lounge at Wild West Guitars in Riverside, CA on July 30th. If you don't know who Carl is, then you should. Carl is honestly one of the best all around guitarists in the world. If you don't believe me then just watch a few of these videos. Carl has been Supertramp's guitarist since 1986 and does a ton of session work in LA and other places as well.

Anyway, the clinic featured Shadow Amplification, mostly Carl's go-to clean amp the MK40, as well as a prototype of Carl's new signature guitar, the LsL Saticoy Carl Verheyen. These amps come across pretty well in the video, but are just amazing in person and I'm totally GASing for the LsL too. This combo is just tonal bliss!

The venue, the Voodoo Lounge at Wild West Guitars, is seriously one of the coolest places I've ever been. I walked in the front door of this place which is a commercial type building in a commercial district thinking "why would they put a guitar shop here?" and that the clinic would be held in some back room. Then I walked down a hall lined with guitars and peered through a doorway and all I could think was "HOLY S**T! WTF????". The back part of Wild West Guitars is a full on music venue decorated like a jungle. I later found out that the owner brought in the guy who decorates all of the Rainforest Cafe's to do the Voodoo Lounge. Totally amazing atmosphere!

So Carl was awesome! He played a few songs, told some stories, went through some exercises, talked about his influences, talked about his guitars and amps, etc. Carl is a BEAST! There is a lot to be learned from a musician with as much knowledge as Carl. He is seriously toooo good at just about every style you can think of.

Now when I said I had lots of video, I meant it. I actually filmed the entire show. I haven't got it all uploaded yet, but I do have some. In all, it's going to be about 2 hours total. I'll keep posting them as I upload!

    ENJOY!

Dig me some CeeVee. His Intervallic Rock vhs tape changed my way of approaching the instrument.

Kinda lost track of him in recent years, so thanks for the reminder of what a talent he truly is.

I bought a book on sale from B&N titled The Ultimate Fender Book. Lots of eye candy and interesting information/history. Tons of color pics.

Included is a DVD of Carl Verheyen and author Dave Hunter spend over an hour playing vintage Fender guitars through vintage Fender amps. The DVD is worth the price of the book ($7).

When you can get all that out of a Strat, you don't need anything else. Man.

Well, I only watched the first video so far. Wow! Could you imagine if you were holding auditions for a second guitarist and someone came in and played like this guy?

The idea might pop up that he's simply too good to be in this band. Ha, ha.

    Awesome!

Carl is truly great. A unique voice, AND a true "Jack Of All Trades", combined with being a really nice guy.

Now, if we could just get him back in Little Rock............
