Carr Telstar

    This is a new amp from Carr that was brought to our attention by BallaBalla in another thread, and I thought it would make sense for it to have it's own thread.......and to avoid further derailing that Skylark/Sportsman thread. There's already a lot of great info there, but many may miss it due to the fact that the thread title has nothing to do with this amp.

    It's a Class A Tweed amp that pairs an EL84 with a 6L6. The 6L6 can be swapped out for a 6V6, El34, or KT66 without biasing. They're hoping to release it around September......Probably because that's when my Birthday is. :p Tweed amps typically aren't my thing, but if it's anywhere nearly as good as the Skylark, I'm in. Hopefully they'll offer it in a head configuration!

    Funny thing, my B-Day is in September as well...........ha....lol.:)

    I'm sure it's gonna be a sweet amp. Well just have to wait and see, I'm sure Steve will share more details before it hits the market.

    They're so busy over there that I'd imagine even early September would be optimistic for further info or a possible release date.

    Looking forward to some clips, but as a Strat player, Tweed amps usually aren't really my cup of tea though. The Skylark is the only Tweed-ish amp I've been able to bond with. So I'm not totally sure this one will be for me. Also, if it's not offered in a head configuration I won't be getting one, as I don't do combos anymore. I've still got my fingers crossed for the eventual release of a single channel Slant 6V!!!

    Interesting that the wattage selector is on a rotary pot. Usually it’s a couple fixed selections in line with how the tubes are wired (pentode vs triode for example). So they must be using a different approach to output wattage.

    It's got an EL-84 as a constant and a 6L6 as the second tube. You can change that second tube to a 6V6 or an EL-34, each giving different results. It's tweedish in its overdrive but very pretty and more extended on its cleans than a tweed amp.

    How do the dualing power tubes work...? I've never seen that before.
