So the latest email from Catalinbread:

In collaboration with Maxon, our chief designer, Nicholas Kula, modded the Maxon OD808 to give it some Catalinbread flavor. Only 400 will be available. You'll receive your own unique pedal with a corresponding number.

    I'm underwhelmed.

    Thoughts?

So Nicolas Kula is the new Howard?

I hope he comes up with something more original.

Overwhelmingly boring. The post-Howard Catalinbread is now completely dead to me.

Catalinbread has now become the Spinal Tap of pedal manufacturers.

Well, his other innovation is a MIAB:

"This particular kit is for our version of a Marshall JCM800 and Park 150, featured in our very first Issue and dubbed “Ltd. Distortion. The author of the piece, Nicholas Kula, originally designed this pedal to end the tone quest of a friend of his, who had no other requirements than “it has to sound like Fugazi.” The result is a tribute to all things JCM, with volume, gain and presence knobs, along with a full three-band EQ. A toggle switch bypasses the entire EQ and presence controls for a raw, unhinged redlined Marshall head."

He also writes for the Tone Report, so he was or is part of the Reverb Empire:

But he'll never be as cool as Howard.

I remember that video of Howard using an early DLS to make a Princeton sound like a freakin Marshall stack and *daring* you to doubt it was possible.

None of us will ever be as cool as Howard.

Dang, I really do miss Howard. CBread back on the day just knocked out of the park perpetually, the DLS is one of my favorite pedals of all time.

My initial thought was that it must be April Fool’s Day. I still feel like that to a point since they’ll be limiting it to the same number of units as the Ibanez-Vemuram TSV808.

Apparently there's a few other pedal makers in on this modded TS gig:

"In addition to teaming up with original Maxon engineer (and designer of the OD808/TS808) for the Maxon OD808's 40th anniversary. We've had the tremendous opportunity to bring you mods from such industry legends as Robert Keeley (Keeley Electronics), Nicholas Kula (Catalinbread), Jamie Stillman (Earthquaker Devices), and David Koltai (Pigtronix)."

But to call Nichola Kula legendary?

    Um, no.

So since Howard has been mentioned several times, what's he doing now?

He's obviously made a name for himself with pedal designs.

Naturally he's got to pop up somewhere...
