You can probably set your lunar calendar by my regular monthly visits to my favorite Gibson store.

    Pics here http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v367/tattooedcarrot/Centre%20City%20Music/Current%20Stock/

And this time I didn’t walk away empty handed – GOTW 61RI SG in satin walnut brown. Looks great in the flash pics with a cool brown with a rough wood grain showing, but in normal light it looks more like a very dark brown opaque. I wish it was a little lighter brown.

Did you happen to see any custom shop LP flamed bursts with a 60's neck? I have an e-mail into them to check, but they have not responded yet.

Just call them, it's a husband-wife business. Saul runs the store and Teri does the internet from home. She'll have to call Saul at the store to get an answer for your question anyway, so you'd be better off talking to him first-hand.

One of the guitars in your pics is very possibly going to be mine soon. I'm not gonna say which one because I don't want to jinx it! I've played it a couple of times, I just have to get a couple of ducks lined up in the proverbial row and get back down there, real life can really get in the way sometimes! It's not one of the faster movers, so I think it will still be there, I'll call first of course. If not I'll just have him get another one.

Cover the fret board and other parts, remove the pick guard and leave it in the sun.

Could take a while - there's a bunch of people doing it to their LP Reissues to make them look more like the real thing, and it seems to work well!

You think that would acutally work? How long would something like that take?

Are you sure that won't darken the finish?

I know it can do that with Fender opaque finishes like Oly white, Torino red, etc.

    Just curious.

    Thanks

I love that place. I'd love it more if I were left-handed, I have never seen so many southpaw gibbos in one place.

Yeah it might not work on your one, depends what kind of stain and lacquer is on it I guess. A the moment the only thing I can say for sure is that it works on Gibson burst finishes on the Historics and that included a Tobacco burst that has had 160 hours of sunlight - faded nicely. These have old style dyes and nitro finishes so it might not be a useful guide for you. I think yours definitely has some sort of stain on it though.

I don't think I'd do it to my Historic but there are people out there doing these sort of things and getting results.

It's a dark stain for sure, looks almost like a dark brown primer. It is nitro though and has that same classic Gibson nitro new-car smell to it. But 160 hours? Holy-moly I don't have that kind of patience.

Haven't some folks taken their guitars into tanning salons to UV age them?
