Yes he is! I love his stuff. He can also smoke on more straight ahead material. For the record, I prefer his lyricism and modern vocabulary to Bryan B. Since the You Tube is of Actual Proof. Much much more lyrical. Both cats are tremendous though and have their niches.
Great player, I've seen him a bunch of times with Donati, boring as heck to watch though and listen (for me) but still a great technical player.
While I agree he may be boring, I would not lump him in as a purely technical player. Listen to this straight ahead stuff. Lots of rests and space and brilliant phrasing. Much more in the Sco tradition here.
