I love old Charvels (avatar yes). Here's one I was playing this morning after some new strings. It was once owned and used (a lot) by a guitarist named Jack Starr who played in a 80s band called Virgin Steele.

Looks killer Ralph, those old bound flattops have a unique vibe. Looks like old DiMarzio PAFs?

So nice. They've done some remakes of the bound flattops recently out of the Custom Shop. (Look great too IMO.)

What's the story on Surfcasters? I love the look of them but I vaguely remember hearing about Charvel being bought and sold several times. What years do people like in the Surfcaster?
Sorry to kind of change the subject.

I'm into late 70s early 80s as it was my very early teens and my head was exploding with hard rock and especially great guitar playing (including jazz and fusion greats like holdsworth, DiMeola, Jeff Beck). So another maker of this era that I love is Hamer. Here's my '78 Sunburst. It's not this bright - there's a flash effect here. But close enough.

Sweet Hamer ...love the Charvel in your avatar as well.

just out of curiosity, how much does the Jack Star Charvel weigh?

Not sure of the weight - probably around 8 pounds? I had an all-mahogany Charvel that was quite heavy. None of the early stratheads that I've held were very light by today's standards.

I hear that, I've played a few old ones over the years and they were all borderline heavy to heavy guitars.
I have an 84 Pointy that I bought new when I was 19 and it's not light either, probably 8.5-9 lbs

Might as well keep the vintage Charvel goodness going.... this one has its original blue lined case and sales receipt!
