I picked up this really ugly RAT pedal this morning taking a chance I wasn't buying a broken piece of junk. I brought it home, plugged it in, and man does it sound great. I've never played a RAT pedal before so I didn't know what to expect. All the pots work and I even got a power supply in the deal. Curiosity got the best of me and I took it apart to see of the insides were as ugly as the outside. It's surprisingly clean given it's outside appearance. Please see pics below. It appears to have been USA made on April 9, 1987....is that correct? I know nothing about these RATs. Did I buy a paperweight?

Anyway, I'd be very appreciative if some of you RAT pedal experts could respond with your thoughts on it. Thanks!!!

this has to be a joke thread.

25 dollars, you think it sounds great, and youre worried if it's a paper weight and/or if you got hosed?

No joke, I do think it sounds great. So yes, just for that it's worth the $25. I'm asking from a value stand point.

Great find. Looks like an 80's/90's RAT but I don't think the sticker contains a date. The pot codes will give you the date. I can't really tell what's going on with yours but I think it may have been made in the 24th week of 1988 by CTS (isn't that first 137 the manufacturer code). Can someone more knowledgeable than me help VBF out? Where are the ProCo people?

I just finished a very informative and helpful conversation with a gentleman from ProCo about this RAT and learned a lot. Based on what he said, and he's been around there a long time, the circuit in this thing is the circuit they tried to copy when they did the reissue version, whenever that was (white face or something?). He figured it's dated in the 1985 - 1987 range and said pot codes and so forth aren't a terribly reliable method of dating the pedals (get you in the ballpark) because they didn't do such a great job of rotating inventory. So dating these is somewhat squishy. He also said that it was a good unit to have and keep, even though it's looks ratty (sorry, couldn't resist) :). So I'm chalking today's buy up to great luck!!!!
