I bought this recently but just today got it back from a refret / set-up and this thing is KILLER

It's a '74 I grabbed off Ebay. It was owned by Phil Spalding ( a british bassist who's played with a ton of people and was in the 80s Howe / Hackett band GTR ). It has the orig blonde finish underneath (in pretty nice shape) but was lightly oversprayed in black nitro ages ago and has been signed / doodled on by countless pub bands mostly. Holly Johnston (from Frankie Goes to Hollywood) and Paul Humphreys (from Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark) both did their thing.. anyways. I was gonna "restore" it back to blonde but I cant bear to. In Person , it looks like Rock N Roll history incarnate :)

And it sounds CRAZY great - newly refretted w/ 6105s - it rings like a BELL !!

The orig guard ( routed for an 80s dimarzio humbucker ) , the original bridge ( which was nice ), the pickup (which I HATED- super thin and microphonic ) - and the orig 1 meg pots ( on a tele ? NO THANKS ) - were all sold back on Ebay and almost recovered every dollar I paid for the guitar

Now I can play "Rock The Casbah" in true Joe Strummer-style

And here it is w/ the AC-10 I just bought thru the Emporium ( BOY, that was a great move too !! )

Dano, that may be the coolest thing I have seen from you yet! Brilliant guitar! If there is more vibe than that, I don't wanna see it.

Very cool tele Dano and a very wise decision to leave the finish as is. Vibe galore! Oh yeah, the AC-10 is smokin' too! Congrats on two fine finds.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I slipped on to browse the forum while in a boring meeting at work and saw this. Cool thing to see in the middle of the most boring meeting ever. I am not much into guitars signed by people with a sharpie, but scratching through the black paint is a very awesome thing to see. It is a combination of seeing graffitti on a college bar wall from the past 30 years and a quick glance at the stuff on the walls at a Hard Rock. Awesome find.

Ya know, that finish actually does remind me of the bathroom stall at the Goldrush before it was bought and sanitized a couple years back-that or the bathroom wall and dressing room at the the Exit/Inn also before it was rehabbed.

Tough call, a blond worn in 74 would be cool.

That is awesome, and I'm not usually a fan of heavily worn guitars.

    That would make it easier...

In college I got to see OMD in concert, it was alot of fun. The crowd knew all the words and sang back to the band the whole show.

besides, you would probably still have a bunch of graffiti scratches, impressions, etc. if you did strip off the black, so it wouldn't even be that nice of a blonde anyway.

    very cool!

That's a much better look than the typical relic which to me looks phony.
