    Agree on Costner.

It seems like The Hunt For Red October is a good argument for both positions, oddly enough. Sean Connery speaking in Connery, the other Soviets in Russian-accented English: both seemed to work just fine.

Gee, maybe this whole "suspension of disbelief" thing depends on lots of little things...?

Just finished the last episode. Loved the whole series, really well done.

Those three workers each survived. One died of heart defect about 15 years ago and the other two are still alive.

Dystopian writers and some philosophers argue modern technology is Prometheus unbound. Can't help thinking of this as I watch.

8 pages in and no mention yet of my favorite old site with great pics and storyline - Kid of Speed.

Chernobyl was a real turning point for me. I was in a band that was about to return to Scandinavia for our second tour and the news reports made me decide to stay here. The band went and used guitar players over there. I had to sink or swim on my own so that was the big life changing moment for me changing from side man to front man.

Great series, I was disappointed that they didn't show what happened in the control room initially, but saving it for the last episode worked pretty well. I wonder if the control room engineer was really as big a dickhead as they made him out to be.

I had a similar thought, and it reminded me of some of the characterizations of historical figures in Titanic. It strikes me as a pretty effective way to capture systemic failures and how they often come to roost.

The plaudits are spot on. Gripping and very well put together. They did a great job of breaking down the technical stuff near the end there, and inserted it in such a way as to not detract from the overall tension and atmosphere.

Loved the sound design too. The Frippesque 'scape in the first scene of the last episode hit me right in the feels. Superbly placed contrast to the ominous drones, geiger counter blips and <silence>.

Wish there were more but am glad there isn't!

Get that Villanelle chick. (Jodie Comer)

    Shaken, not stirred.

So like a prophylactic “safer”? All it takes is an earthquake. There is no safe.

    Tube or profiler?

Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, Fukushima...the next one?

As an aside, between 1945 and the late 60's, the continental US nuked itself over 2000 times. Presumably to avoid being nuked by someone else.

I imagine that extreme narcissists such as this are contributing factors in many disasters. Francesco Schettino, the captain of the Costa Concordia comes to mind.

I watched the final episode last night. It's such a well done series IMO. I too thought the technical explanations part of the writing were really great. I'm glad they did the "where are they now" type updates during the credits.

Chernobyl was the result of a very poor operational culture. Fukashima was due to a natural disaster beyond what was anticipated when it was designed.

Also, if you want to get into safety, please compare the deaths, illnesses and injuries caused by fossil fuels versus nuclear.

Are you talking about comparing operational safety or overall environmental impact between different fuels?
