I can't speak for anyone else, but I was not EVEN CLOSE to her level at 16 years old! I don't know if Ed was that great at 16??? Probably, but who knows?? I remember being blown away by Dweezil Zappa bootleg of him at 13, but not the sense of feel and timing Chelsea possesses or the clean picking. Of course they are and have been other prodigies and are forgotten. I think it will be cool to see how Chelsea develops into her own, her own licks, arrangments, etc. While Chelsea is a huge EVH and RR fan and does it very well, she still needs to move forward and develop this into her own originality. Ed played Cream all day long and did it well at an early age and developed it to be the greatest rock guitarist of all time. He never had a RR or Jake E Lee or Malmsteen to imitate and learn technique from. Ed only had essentially blues guitarists and completely reworked it into nearly unrecognizable innovation. It blows me away that many of his solos are based off of the most recognizable pentatonic minor shape used on the planet and yet sounds completely unique! Wow! So many guitarists are using modes of the melodic or harmonic major or minor to find a new sound and Ed basically did it with a scale and the most common shape right under our noses and made it new.... add in tapping, killer timing, great single channel amp brit-tone, smart use of FX, great arrangements, too - of course.
