if you responded to this ad?

    http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/msg/2867871543.html

I saw this yesterday morning while enjoying my coffee. I was wondering what the catch was and read it several times. My only question was "who is (Lupe)."
That is normally the city, or area of ad, but there is no Lupe around here. So I highlighted the whole title and googled it - This is what I found:

Same ad, with a believable price. My question is what exactly do you think the guy in the first ad is trying to pull?

Charitably, maybe he meant to list it at 3,000, accidentally listed it at 300, realized there was a more local craigslist, abandoned first ad. Something like that.

But it's two different people. The first guy (I think) just copied and pasted the the second guy's ad.

    1. He meant $2300, or,
    2. You'll get rolled for $300

it may be the same guy using a cell # for the LA, and his name is recognized in Santa Barbara

Lupe was Fender employee assembling amps in the '50s. She is quite famous, BTW. Many of the old amps have employee names on the chassis-probably signed to identify the builder for payroll purposes.

I saw that ad here in the SB craiglist a couple weeks ago. Kenny Loggins (and Jim Messina) are Santa Barbara "locals" and Messina has a studio here, so that part rings true. Kinda pricey for an amp without the original transformer and speaker, so I looked no further.

Well, this was not sitting right with me. So I contacted the seller in Santa Barbara, making him aware of the ad here in LA. Turns out it was indeed a scam. I guess you show up with $300 thinking you made the score of the century and you leave without the amp and $300, if you're lucky.
