get a matchless clone from Ceriatone
    be done with it
except if you're into the whole "let's show off our bookteek amps" thing.
    Then... good luck.

I'm pretty sure you can get an actual AC-30 for that. You can get the hand-wired AC-15 head for a grand new, or the hand-wired AC-30 head for around a grand used. The CC AC-30 models all come in right around there, too, unless you do the one with blues, and they have masters, reverb, and trem on them. It's not quite traditional clean/overdrive, but with the master on the CC model you can set up one channel to be significantly dirtier than the other.

AC30s are not Class A. Same for the Matchless, Top Hat, Bad Cat, and Laney variations.

They are all cathode biased Class AB1.

I have been very happy with my TVA30 combo after several months:

    http://www.usmasters.com/TVA30Amp.htm

It is well within your $1,000 budget.

Last Friday I saw Bobby Bryan use the head/cab version on stage the night he got the amp, and it just smoked for a wide range of blues, soul, etc.
