It really hurts to think how good JLV was...WHY did he not just keep making music like this? He was the KING of the cool, sassy guitar. From '74-90 he was the man. I really, really miss that sound.

The same reason the Beatles did solo records. People change, times change, muses change. Artists, at least good ones, don't stay in the same place doing the same thing. They need new challenges and creative outlets.

I love young JLV, but I also like his solo records.

I think it's remarkable how much he sounds the same now as he did then. His tone might be a little cleaner now, less OD maybe, but the phrasing and licks are really similiar imo. I don't think he's lost a thing...
