Marshall 1959 HW
Germino Headroom 100
Metro 12000
Mojave Peacemaker

Don't care about bedroom level playing. An OD or Atten will work. Ready to spend some cash!

The VHT/FRYETTE D60H head all day long, first of all the amp has to have enough over-the-top-crunch to achieve the van halen 1 sound(first album) which the Deliverance D60H achieves, then the gain can be turn down on the amp to then achieve van halen II and the rest of the van halen catalog,if you are understanding what i mean, the amps listed above are all good sounding amps but they dont have enough of the over-the-top-crunch(gain-distortion)to start with the van halen 1 sound(first album)this way with the Deliverance you have it all,i have played alot and i mean alot of amps from original stock marshall plexis to modded marshalls tried the amps listed above and then some all good sounding amps but the amp that gave me "THE" tone we are talking about is the VHT/FRYETTE Deliverance head also dont believe alot of the BS out there when it comes to the early van halen sound alot of people speculate on that subject and then rumours fly all around, ive did my homework about Eddie tone in the mid 70s into the 80s and i have spoke to jose arrendondo(no longer with us,eddie original amp modder-amp tech) many times in the early 80s about Eddie sound,so take alot of the BS with a grain of salt .................:aok

Splawn Quick Rod or better yet, find a Splawn modded Marshall 1987x reissue. Scott is an EVH freak and he hit the mark with this series IMHO. You can thank me later. ;)

Splawn makes good amps but the clarity is lacking especially for the van halen 1 sound, they tend to get muddy,(tubby sounding) i have tried splawn amps and they dont compare to the VHT/FRYETTE amps in my opinion, this is just my opinion. The reeves 78 is a good sounding amp i would buy it over the splawn hands down but the reeves needs that extra gain and the deliverance achieves that with no problem.....

Never played the VHTD but I have a pitbull 45 combo which is one loud ass amp. Has mega crunch on tap. Agreed about the Splawn that it IMO also is quite far off from the early VH tone. Not sure why people suggest that amp for VH? The Reeves sounds like it would do the trick gain wise and voicing. Remember the VH 1 and the FW tones are his dirtiest and have the most crunch. VH 2 sounds more like a cranked plexi but with a tad more gain which is more in line with rest of the Roth era tones.

Dunno about any others, but the David Bray clips I heard were stunning. You could easily nail early EVH with that amp and lots more.

What about the 5150III? I mean it's eddies
amp and he uses it in concert to play all
of their classic stuff. Being the tone snob he is, I doubt he would use it if it didint have the sound he was wanting. :dunno

EVH might have played it concert lately, But, it doesn't sound like the classic thing, or rather first couple of albums.

Metro have a kit that is from the assumed halen amp era. You have to choose some values I think, but there's some good info of what the circuit probably was.
