Anyone know who makes a Clay Jones clone? I probably couldn't afford a real one. I played a friend's (clone) and it was fantastic, but a little noisy.

Do as I did: build the GGG TS808 kit according to the "expensive boutique" instructions outlined in the kit, pop in a Burr Brown OPA2134PA chip and up the clipping LED size to 5mm. I have no idea how a REAL CJOD would sound, but my DIY sounds fantastic: the first TS I've ever really liked!

Τhe story goes much deeper than that in this forum and others, mainly - but not only - the DIY ones (unfortunately, some threads have been deleted, but might be retrievable, from example through the Internet Archive). It's a taboo subject, so I won't go into it, but you can start from here http://mrmisse.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=print&thread=2993 and beyond that, the search function is your friend.

i only read that thread about a month ago, was very eye opening for me. I am just a guitar player & was pretty naive to the machinations in the boutique world. Love it.

I didn't know this subject was taboo. Also didn't know this site is a spamsite for shills. All I know is the pedal I am borrowing sounds fantastic, better than my AC boost and nothing like my old tubescreamer. Is there any way to reduce the noise?

Is he insinuating that I wrote that? (and even if he is, would that justify the characterisation of TGP as a "spam site for shills"? Geez... people looking for a fight every day...)

I once spoke to Clay Jones...
Told me he built a compressor,
but it turned out folks liked it as an OD...

Found out later that he likes to tell myths
Shame on Clay Jones for lying to me...

i didn't read that he was insinuating that.
the characterization of TGP in that fashion. . . . is right in the link you provided.

Have you ever read the link you posted? It lays TGP out as a spam/shill site. Many times.

That was probably him doing the usual thing: feeding myths to the boutique users community to see how big they become. There was this story that its "magic" recipe came from a DOD Attacker. Since it's been identified as yet another tubescreamer with easy and popular mods, this no longer stands...

As for TGP, no, I don't think so at all. Some users were caught in the usual TS hype mostly started by the Landgraff pedal, and this place was one of many that CJOD conversations took place. Some threads that got ugly and libelous were deleted. I don't know about the other builder (he still makes it), but my impression about the guitarist involved is that he is a really, really nice and humble guy that got unwillingly mixed up in it. As far as I remember, the admins had absolutely nothing to do with supporting spam or anything like that. Quite the opposite. Unfortunately, a few people paid insane amounts of money to get what started as a joke to test the hype limits of the boutique pedal community, publicly swore that it's got teh mojo, and then naturally felt deceived.
