    Hello!

Searching for ideas and inspiration, I'm wondering what is your main overdrive/distortion on a clean amp?

It would be great if you tell what kind of music you play ;)

I'm asking to clean amp users, players who like to keep their amp clean and get their overdrive only with pedals.

    Thanks ;)

Great thread, I use a 50w 6L6 Fender based amp with tons of headroom and mostly colour the sound with pedals so I've been looking for great sounding pedals for this exact thing!

I am probably sounding like a skipping record at this point... Barber Gain Changer is a clean amp delight!

I play late 80s and 90s inspired alt rock (think Pearl Jam, U2, REM, Big Head Todd) and jam-ish like Americana (ABB, GD, Crowes etc) with single coil guitars into Fender amps.

I play Blues and Bluesrock. For that I mainly use a Fulltone Fulldrive 2, sometimes a Vemuram Jan Ray depending on my mood. For Fuzz I use a Foxrox CC Hybrid and a Fulltone Octafuzz. I'm using a Fender Strat and a Fender Silverface Deluxe Reverb Amplifier.

Hey thanks for the replies, this is great!! :munch

At the moment, I mainly use a Zvex Distortron and a Maxon OD808 but I'm not 100% satisfied yet ;)

SL drive seems to be my go to drive. Occasionally I'll boost it with a Timmy in front.

Low-volume, jangly, twangy, melodic folk-rock or something like that.

Depending upon the situation I alternate between playing a Princeton Reverb, Princeton Reverb II, Magic Brit (AC15) or a Clark Gullah (15W Tweed Champ). We mic the amps live and keep the stage volume fairly low.

    I usually play a Tele.

I tend to set my overdrives for a slight volume boost and just a bit of breakup but I'm apt to leave them on for the whole song. I often use different overdrives on different songs.

The ones that I've played the most recently are:

Lumpy's Jelly Roll (sweet chimey grit)
Bearfoot Uber Bee (more Stonesy small amp crunch)
Lumpy's ZII (when I want lower string riffs to pop in a Marshally way)
Klone (set pretty clean, nice low mid bump)

However, I own several other overdrives and fuzz pedals that I switch in and out to change things up.

Sometimes when we play in a more acoustic setting (the bassist and other guitarists go acoustic, drummer switches to percussion) I play an SF Champ and use a Wampler Black '65 set just above clean mostly for the TMB EQ.

I play a vast array of music, but my main two OD/Distortion pedals would be the Mojo Hand DMBL for my OD and the Mojo Hand Magistrate for my higher gain Marshall-esque type tones. I do run a couple different fuzz pedals for additional tones, also. I will use a Mojo Hand Rook to push either of those pedals if needed. They stack really well!

With these 3 I can get any amount of gain you can think of. All I need really.

Generally speaking, I play stoner/doom metal and rely heavily on a Dr. Scientist The Elements, unless I'm using fuzz pedals.

If I can give my amp some volume and get it on the edge of powertube breakup, then an EQD Arrows or a Barber LTD are more than enough to push it into solid (classic) rock tones.

    I use a MIJ DS1, a later model SD1 and a BD2. I often stack them together.

Small Sound / Big Sound F#$K OD and Mini. I just introduced a Klon KTR and v7 OCD to get some tighter rhythm tones. Using a Hiwatt DR103 playing instrumental rock / ambient.

    I gotta give the Barber Gain Changer a try . . .

Tube Screamer (any variant), Blues Breaker clone(s), Timmy.

Blues/jazz rock. Strats into only clean amps.

I run a Fender Pro Reverb and a Fender Princeton Chorus super clean and in stereo. I play stoner type metal and my drive is a EQD Dream Crusher. Sounds amazing to me.
