Were are you all running your clean boost - before dirt, after dirt or in the effects loop?

I have been running mine in the loop due to getting more even performance between amp gain and pedal gain

Running a boost in the effects loop will have no effect on your amp's preamp or any pedals in front of it, and will only serve to add volume to the power amp section. What exact sound are you trying to achieve?

In the loop so that solos and certain fills sit more above the mix. That's for a strictly clean boost though.

I personally run mine in the midst of two overdrives. I like to be able to run boost before one and after the other.

Yeap. After dirt, before delays and reverbs. I run my mods before dirt.

I run my clean boost at the very end of the chain, and I never turn it off. It basically just beefs up and improves the clean tone of the amp. I've tried running it before dirt and I didn't like what it did. Not that it was bad. Just wasn't what I was looking for. I want my clean boost to basically interact with and become one with my amp, so putting right in front of the amp makes the most sense and sounds right to me.

I also use a Bad Monkey for another clean boost before all my dirt pedals, but it's there for the sole purpose of driving any given dirt pedal into a smoother, louder, more present lead tone.

It depends.

Before dirt pedals for more gain.

After dirt pedals before mp for a different kind of boost.

In the loop for a straight volume boost or for taking care of gain issues in a loop.

A clean boost can be a very pratical tool, and have solved different isues over the year.

In my current setup I only use one at the end of the chain in the loop, to care of some gain issues. I use a Lehle.

My goal is to just bump the volume when I do a solo. I don't like any change in tone. So far I have had a EP Booster and a Spark (full size) set to clean with tone controls in the detent and gain almost off. I like the Spark better than the EP in the respect that it responds to both amp gain channels and dirt pedals the same - but only in the loop. However, I still hear a slight bit of something I don't like and can't explain it. I wonder if something like a Flying Dragon might be better? In many cases I almost like giving it an extra kick with the EGO Compressor instead of the Spark

@mikeller It sounds like you want a clean boost, but for some reason you are trying different overdrive pedals, and now a compressor?
For what you describe a Micro Amp or other such clean machine is best.
