combo to head project...

Hello all!
I have a beloved rectoverb 1;12 combo that I use with one, sometimes two cabs. It sounds amazing to me. I am wanting to convert it into a head.

I would like to have a dark red stained finish. Does anyone have any advise on what kind of wood I should use for this?

Or a link to a procedure on how to get a good finish?

And is there anything I should know before I begin to disassemble the combo?

I've done things like this before but not with something this expensive. So any ideas or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Hi. I think mahogany, sapele, cherry wood, etc types would be good.. something with inherent redness to begin with. Of course lighter woods could be used if you do a dyed or translucent finish. A lot of choices out there.. do as much research as you can.

Yeah, I like the reddish look. I saw a converted dual rec a very long time ago and whoever did it did a very nice job. And I wanted to go for that same look. Im going to head to the lumber yard and see what's up. There is also a high dollar furniture maker in the area. Maybe I'll go there and see if they have any ideas.
