In the summer of 1978 I first heard the debut Cars album at a neighborhood party and i was mesmerized by beautiful harmonies, raunchy melodic guitars, quirky keyboard riffs, nerdy and nervous lead vocals and a driving beat of the bass and drums. Hooked ever since! The Cars! Congratulations! 2018 Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame

I don't think the inductions are announced until 12/13, so at this point The Cars and a bunch of other acts are nominees.

Those live videos from 1978 are fantastic. Musikladen, College of Rock or whatever. I’ve said it before, but Ben Orr may have been the coolest dude in rock and roll. The first 2 Cars albums are F’ing great.

Agreed! Can't wait to see him in action at the induction ceremony, assuming he and the other surviving members can patch up their differences.

Yeah, Benjamin Orr was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April of 2000 and passed away Oct 3rd of the same year.
Amazing singer & cheers to The Cars for their music.

One of five acts, and not the top vote getters.

That would be great, but Ben passed away in 2000. The Last interview with him and the rest of the band is pretty interesting. Ben looks really sick.

FYI, Ric, Elliot and Greg reunited for an album a couple years ago called Move like this ( I think) The song Blue Tip came from that album and they did a few shows in small venues. They didn't replace Ben. Greg played the bass on the album.

Back in 1979 my girlfriend dragged me to see the Cars in Central Park. I only went along to appease her because I was primarily into the harder stuff like Zep, Sabbath, Purple, etc. To my surprise I walked away a big fan that day. IMO they should have been inducted long ago, but as usual my expectations are low when it comes to the RRHOF.

Orr had a great voice. Easton is an amazing guitar player. So many good songs, always like the time signature/beat to Touch and Go.

There's an older interview with Easton where he said he started as a right handed player, but switched to lefty when his manager asked him to (said it looked cooler to have a lefty guitarist and a righty bassist). This, along with how great a player Easton is, just about completely blew my mind.

Just love the Cars, one of my favorite bands. Everything is great about them, apart from the sad passing of Ben Orr. So many great songs...

About time. I assumed they had been there for years.

I've seen tons of interviews with EE and he is ( or was) active on The Les Paul Forum. He was playing lefty long before they had a manager. Like most left handed kids, he started playing righty, but he wasn't playing righty at Berklee.

They still aren't at the moment. The inductions announcement isn't until next week.

Absolutely worthy, they're already in my personal Hall of Fame. Hope they get the recognition, if they care.

    From a recent interview.

GHN: When you first started playing, were you able to find a left handed guitar?

EE: I just flipped the guitar over and played it upside down
