i aquired a prewired guard from someone, and it has no control knobs and the shaft (?) of the pots are oversized so the regular strat knobs, and others of the same size wont fit..

i checked every guitar shop in my area, and none of them have knobs that will fit?

anywhere i can get some online?

are they a solid, smooth round shaft? sounds like you just need to get some set-screw knobs, like fender teles and basses use.

if they're still a split shaft with the splines, you might just be running into the difference between the import shafts and the USA shafts.

There are no oversized pot shafts. Just a couple of different standards.

Let's figure out what you've got.

Solid shafts come in two sizes (yes, I'm excluding the small ones, 'cause that's obviously not what we're talking about) there are 1/4" shafts and 6mm. That's it. In general, Asian stuff uses the 6mm and American the 1/4, no surprise. A 1/4" knob fits pretty well on the 6mm but not the other way around.

Splined shafts, the ones with the grooves and the split in the middle, also come in two common sizes and again there is the old American standard and the more recent Asian stuff. The regular Fender branded knobs will fit the larger American spline pattern.

its a solid shaft, and must be a 6mm since i cant get any of the knobs i have (which by this i assume are american) to fit on them.

    thanks for the info man

that's backwards; the import knobs (6mm) might not fit the american pots (1/4").

buy some USA-spec set-screw knobs and and you're good to go.

    Strat knobs are knurled.

Knurled knobs do not fit on solid shafts.

Get a couple of nice Tele knobs and it'll be special.

Splines. Knurling is the machine cuts added to the outside of the knob and has nothing to do with the inside of the knob. A friendly pendantive composition of technicality for the sake of correctness in the future.:aok
