Guitarists: have you ever controlled your Line 6 POD with your face? This work presents a system which uses the output from face-tracking and gesture recognition software to drive a parameterized guitar effects synthesizer in real-time.

    That's pretty interesting.....

......I bet Joe Cocker would have a devil of a time trying to use it though. :p

What if you were asian, and "Lost Face?" Would you also lose the ability to control your guitar?

Great stuff! I've been working with interactive computer graphics since 1988 (had a VR company for 9 years, now doing VR consulting work) and think this is a great example of new technologies being used to offer more capabilities to artists. My view is that the computer age is just beginning and there are lots of interesting developments to look forward to.

Reminds me of the theremin concept (well, the Theremin is a clunky analog thing that'll do some pretty cool CV stuff). You can get a stomp box that's like a theremin (distance away varies a control voltage), mount it to the side of your amp and vary your envelop filters, phasers, delays, ring mods (like the Big Briar stuff) by moving closer or farther with the headstock of your guitar or your hip...

So Gary Moore was playing a wah-wha pedal via his mug the whole time?

    Who'd have thunk...:D
