Sugar. I needed to cut it out of my diet. Soda was the main culprit.

I strongly recommend everyone cut soda out of diet.

I stopped drinking soda over 10 yrs ago.

2 immediate effects once you’ve gone a bit with/ out soda

1 you get skinner. All that carbonation effects you’re body and makes you fat and bloated. People talk about getting beer belly from drinking beer but soda does it so much worse. Once you’ve gone a few days week or two it will have noticeably effect in making you skinny I believe because of cutting out filling body with carbonation.

2 once you’re body is purged of carbonation soda the high carbonation in soda becomes gross. It makes you feel bloated and sick and becomes unappetizing. You won’t want to have soda once your body has been with carbonation for a bit. If you desire soda and enjoy it, prob means you haven’t gone long enough without for body to be without being bloated from carbonation.

Personally I do enjoy having sodas mixed with alcohol cause it makes the soda flatter and even drinking flat soda would be ok but a regular coke I find undrinkable.

The other thing is the sugar. Diabetes and liver damage is common as a result of consuming too much sugar and esp high fructose corn syrup.

There was a study done several yrs ago showing something like 1/3 of American children age 10 had early stages of liver damage which was prob due to sugar esp from soda.

I’m all about moderation with sweets alcohol and everything, but soda is one thing you should cut out completely... and once you cut it out you won’t want it anyway.

I’m in good shape at times I do a bunch of running but I haven’t done any in like a yr, I try to eat healthy but I do eat a lot of sweets and junk... the main reason why I appear fit I believe is because I don’t drink soda.

Go two weeks without drinking any soda and see what happens.

Initially if you’re body is used to caffeine and sugar may get headaches need to ween yourself off that, but just replace with another source of sugar and caffein so you’re not unhappy and don’t give into drinking soda. point of stopping soda is to get rid of carbonation helping to reduce sugar think of as an added bonus.

This thread made me think about how much Coke I really drink and, after a bit of calculation, I reckon I've had a total of 12 cans in the past 5 years.

I gave up sugared drinks ( I still have a soda occasionally but not regularly ) a few years ago and lost a fair amount of weight because of that. I do drink a lot of plain seltzer/carbonated water and the weight has stayed off so I think the sugar is most (all?) of the problem and not carbonated water.

my father and brother have huge beer guts though (totally out of proportion to the rest of their bodies)... from drinking beer. i don't think either one has ever been much of a soda drinker.

Soda makes you fat because it is full of sugar and calories, not because it is carbonated. If it makes you more fat than beer, it's because it has more sugar and calories than beer (in many cases, it doesn't).

Carbonation is just carbon dioxide gas dissolved in a fluid. Carbon dioxide gas will not make you bloat except for the volume of the gas itself as it passes through your digestive system. It has no caloric value, so it cannot make you fat.

Anyone remember when Coke came in 6.5 ounce glass bottles? Lower dose, fewer side effects.
