I'm heading out to LA in about a month and was wondering if you guys could suggest some cool shops in the area to check out some boutique pedals? Looking for some new overdrive choices, something different.

Well my short list is Truetone music in Santa Monica, and Analog heaven in Pomona. Now I should mention that La is a rather spread out mess so Pomona to Santa Monica is kind of a haul. Anymore I buy from three stores, Truetone, Analog Heaven, and Wild West. Life is too short for the mass retail outlets.

I usually suggest True Tone on Santa Monica and 7th in Santa Monica. cool store, good selection, run by guitar players.

Maybe the Amp Shop in Van Nuys .... Wild West in Riverside.

cool, thanks guys. I'm staying in West Hollywood, so I'm going to have to get my bearings down so I can hit these shops.

Big City Music in the Valley. Th elast time I went (a few years ago) it was by appointment only - pretty impressive collection of stuff.

Tone Merchants in Orange...not too far from LA

but Truetone is the spot, i went there once and tried a whole slew of stuff:

    Menatone Red Snapper
    Mentone Blue Collar
    all the Zvex stuff
    DLS Echotap
    Sex Drive
    MJM Blues Devil
    MJM London Fuzz
    all the Xotic stuff

and theyve got all those cool overpriced EH synth pedals

TrueTone - best & hugest selection by far.

GoGo Guitars - Long Beach - lil bit of a drive from W.Hwd. - but worth it - great pedal selection.

Tone Merchants - good stuff, call to see what's in stock - they get depleted pretty fast.

If you're going to be in West Hollywood, your best bets are Truetone, the Amp Shop (just over the hill in Sherman Oaks - you can go on your way to or back from Santa Monica) and one that hasn't been mentioned yet: the Mesa store across the street from Guitar Center in Hollywood. Tons of ZVex, Moog, Teese, HBE, Fulltone, EHX etc, cool staff, cool amps, and only five minutes away.

All this, and Moollon too :eek

Long Beach/OC/Riverside = a four-hour commitment at least, with a minimum of two hours fighting traffic.

I walked into TrueTone and was floored by the selection. That is definitely the joint. Then you can stroll up the street to Hooters.

Amp Shop gets a thumbs down for that cold-ass, haughty shopkeeper. The selection isn't even half as good as TrueTone anyway.

my experience at mesa is that the staff are arrogant pricks and the repair guy doesn't know a thing about tube amps

hey, thanks so much for the suggestions. I will definitely be checking out some of these options. Quick question, does anyone know if Lovepedal has any dealers in LA? It would be great to demo some of these pedals.

I was there a couple of weeks ago and the staff seemed helpful enough. I tried out the Stiletto Ace combo. Perhaps they have new friendly staff now? No experience with the repair guy.

Go-Go Guitars is a Lovepedal dealer. I know they're waiting on an order. I would check with them for details.

Truetone will be one of the closest to you, then, and they usually have a good assortment of pedals.

    meh......to each his own

since my problems with mesa hollywood, i learned how to fix my own amps, sold my mesa, and coudn't be happier

you drive 2 hours there and back only to find your amp isn't fixed, then do that TWICE

if i need zvex, i'll go to truetone, where they were great
