Copper shielding under the pickguard

I'm building a tele thinline with Warmoth parts, etc. Do I need to put copper shielding on the underside of the pickguard? Some teles I have owned had it, others didn't. I never paid much attention to the difference in sound and performance, never noticed any.

It will help quiet down the 60 cycle hum.I used aluminium tape on both my S500's and noticed it as soon as i turned the volume pot up.

Why did you sign up for a guitar message board if you didn't want to talk about guitars?

The guy is clearly asking about copper shielding.

he didn't ask about copper shielding. read his post exactly

he was asking wether he should shielded his guitar or not.

from my experience this is a personal preference things.

i would answer differently if the OP was asking what the differences shielding will make.

It can supposedly help reduce the static electricity scratch noise you get on some strat and tele pickguards. I'm getting ready to install some on the PG of my Anderson Tele that I'm having a lot of static problems with to see if it really helps or not.

The problem isn't the shielding of the guitar, it's the electricity. When I'm on good electricity I have no hum at all.

i am also getting static on my strat but it shielded with aluminum tape, does copper eliminate the static?

its really depend on the guitar. some of my guitar are shielded and the other are not, just because sometime shielding it really change the tone to be less "open?"

This is the kind of thing you could have put in your first post rather than being a wise guy.

I just finished building a Tele and at first it was a little noisy so I went back and did some additional shielding including the underside of the pickguard. Now it's completely quiet. I would do it.
